Northern Contours Founder Passes Away1/4/2013 9:21:41 AM | | Article by Northern Contours | St. Paul, Minn. - Northern Contours announces the unexpected passing of company founder Mike Rone on December 29, 2012 at the age of 63. Mike, a co-founder and current Chairman of the Board of Northern Contours, has been involved in the cabinet and wood products industry since 1978. He served a variety of roles in the sector between 1978 and 1992 including purchasing, new product development, production management and manufacturer’s sales representative. In 1992, he realized a significant untapped opportunity in European membrane pressing technology, which led him to form Northern Contours with Duaine Miranowski. Mike and Duaine believed that the combination of the new technology with a focus on flexible manufacturing and customer service would create a successful position for Northern Contours in the marketplace for wood, veneer, and 3D laminates of doors and components which continue on today.
“Mike’s approach to business was centered around caring for customers. It went way beyond transacting routine business,” says Lary Skow, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Northern Contours. “He wanted to know them, provide superior service and develop longstanding friendships with those he served. This model of service is a cornerstone for the company he built and will be forever remembered by those who had the good fortune to know Mike.
“This has been a shock to all of us, says Ken Pfarr, president and CEO of Northern Contours. “Over the past 30 years, Mike has been a great friend, supplier and employer. Both his zeal and genuineness will be missed by everyone who knew him.”
“Mike’s heart was as big as his passion for life. His adventurous spirit and active lifestyle was a model for many. He touched the lives of countless people in his work and travels. I feel very fortunate and blessed to have been one of them,” adds Skow. | | | |
