AWI Design Solutions Magazine Released

7/29/2014 4:00:00 PM
Article by Wood IQ Staff

The Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) has released the summer 2014 edition of their official journal, Design Solutions Magazine. The publication offers in depth features and resources including a technical article and a Product Showcase.

A cornerstone article and technical article are published in each new issue of Design Solutions Magazine. This quarter’s cornerstone article is called “Future of the Tropical Forests Depend Upon the Market for Woods” and discusses how the concern for the loss of rainforest is causing people in the design community to shy away from specifying tropical woods, but the loss for these markets is encouraging the deconstruction of the forests. This issue’s technical article is called “Wood Recycled” and discusses how students from Madison College reclaimed and reused wood to build the front desk at the headquarters of the United States Forest Service.

As always, you can still count on seeing the same beautiful examples of fine architectural woodwork manufactured by AWI Member Companies.

The summer 2014 issue features AWI member companies:

  • Gaithersburg Cabinetry & Millwork, of Warrenton, VA and their work on Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington, in Mount Vernon, VA.
  • Imperial Woodworking Company, of Palatine, IL and their work on Astellas US Headquarters, in Northbrook, IL. Fetzer Architectural Woodwork, of West Valley City, UT and their work on the Law Offices of Kirton McConkie in Salt Lake City, UT.
  • Wavell-Huber Architectural Wood Products, Inc., of North Salt Lake, UT and their work on Our Savior Parish and USC Caruso Catholic Center in Los Angeles, CA.

Design Professionals seeking AIA credits can rely on the AWI Speakers Bureau to fulfill their learning credits. The AWI Speakers Bureau provides the opportunity for design professionals, woodworking firms, and other industry partners to host speakers who deliver current and relevant information on the standards and practices within the architectural woodwork industry for AIA credits. AWI is the oldest registered continuing education provider of learning units for architects and design professionals.

The summer 2014 edition of Design Solutions, as well as back issues, can be found on the AWI website, www.awinet.org.
